Cliffnotes of Uluru and Alice Springs

Nights in the Outback were magical.

Alice Springs

Where to stay:

Alice Springs YHA

  • Was ok.. clean, but only stayed to sleep then left

What to do:

  • Anzac Hill (panoramic view of the city)
  • Aboriginal Culture tour?
  • Alice Springs telegraph station
  • Historical Reserve- free 45 minute tour
  • Be careful at night- especially near the dry bed of Todd River and Aboriginal “town camps"
  • Kangaroo Dundee's refugee camp

Food:

  • Overlander’s Steakhouse- "Drover’s Blowout”- large meal, split with people?

Uluru

  • Bring insect repellent!
    • 98% deet
  • I did the Way Outback tour 3 day, 2 night.
    • It was ok… not fantastic, not bad. The sights were incredible, and we did do a lot, but the guide was eh...
    • Be prepared for a lot of driving
      • I would NOT recommend doing this on your own.
    • Slept under the stars in ‘swags.’
      • It was cool- literally and metaphorically
    • Ayer’s Rock seems to change colors at sunset
    • Visit the Uluru Cultural Center
    • Kata Tjuta Park is fantastic, too
    • Valley of the Seven Winds Star gazing out here is fantastic
    • Kings Canyon / Watarrka national park
      • The Garden of Eden
    • Camel Farm
